On 24th August, 29 Hikmat members — 10 adults and 19 children from five different ethnic backgrounds — enjoyed a fantastic and educational day out at Exmouth Beach. We set off from Exeter Central Bus Station at 10am, with Mona, our team leader, guiding everyone through the journey and the beautiful seaside town before arriving at the Seashore Centre.
The families took part in some really interesting talks about sewage pollution, water safety, beach flags and important safety skills for activities in the sea and rivers. The children were brilliant, getting involved with the presenters and asking lots of questions. Afterwards, we enjoyed a picnic by the sea, with some children swimming and others playing in the sand.
At 1pm, we met back at the centre before joining the beach cleaning team. Everyone got involved with the rubbish picking, and there were plenty of laughs along the way! Together, we collected an amazing 4kg of rubbish, and each child received a medal for taking part. We headed back to Exeter in the afternoon, with parents grateful for such a great opportunity. It was a brilliant day of learning, fun, friendship and enjoying nature together!
