About Us

About Hikmat Devon

Hikmat Devon was established in 2005 when there was little on offer for families and individuals from culturally diverse communities in Devon. We work in various parts of the county, with our main office in Exeter. See our partnership page to explore our many collaborations.

Mission:

“Working alongside individuals and families from displaced and culturally diverse communities; building bridges, creating connections and enabling people to thrive and grow.”

Vision:

“Creating a welcoming county where those from culturally diverse communities can navigate systems, explore and learn together and live fulfilled connected lives”

Our Model:

We are a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) using the Co-operative model, a co-op is a type of organisation that is owned by a group of individuals for their mutual benefit (in this case the Hikmat will be controlled equally by the people who use it and by staff & volunteers). We hold Annual General Meetings, and Coop Members Meetings throughout the year. (Ella Get info – number members / diverse)
We are governed by a Board of Directors who are elected at our Annual General Meeting: See companies house for current Directors.

(Some of the Hikmat Staff & Volunteer Team)

It turns out our staff and volunteer model has made Hikmat what it is today, a family of diverse cultures, lived experience and passion to pass on the support they themselves received when they needed it.

Hikmat has a unique and diverse staff and volunteer team, who we are hugely proud of. Since its inception it has always nurtured those who we worked with to become volunteers, through training, and confidence building, helping people to gain experience.
