RAMM kindly partnered with Hikmat offering 2 workshops this June.
- Hikmat members made personal textile pieces in the form of small hangings and banners. 18 attendees and 2 staff members participated. They were guided through the museum to explore the collections to stimulate the creative mind before making their own art work, led by an artist. Those involved shared and enjoyed each others work from a mix of ethnicities.
- Hikmat members worked collaboratively on textile pieces creating a map of Exeter, centred around how the city grows from the river, and including places that were special to those involved. 11 of Hikmat members were involved. RAMM will keep hold of the project as other pieces will be added to it from other communities. attendees learned about the history of the river dating back thousands of years. They looked at stones local ancestors used for sitting, and historic ceramics.
This opportunity created a great connection between the different minorities with the locals of Exeter, but not limited to that, it even connected “now” and the “past”.
“All of us paid lots of attention joining our effect in making a big piece of art together. There were two researchers arranged by RAMM, they interviewed a few of us listening to their thoughts about life in Exeter”
These two workshops were a great success in bringing people together.
