ASRA (BME Learning Disability Project)

ASRA is a service we offer for adults from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, living in Devon, who are or may be eligible for services from the Learning Disability Teams.

How it works:

• Identify people over the age of 18 from black and minority ethnic backgrounds who have a learning disability and live in Devon.

• Ensure that the identified individuals are contacted by a lead Support Worker who, together with Carers and users, designs their own Care Plan. The Care Plan will address all issues identified by them; the support service will be user-led and culturally appropriate.

• The lead Support Worker will put service users and Carers in touch with an Asra Community Support Worker, who will act as a resource for them, provide peer support, and facilitate exchange of information. Service users will be encouraged to join in social and learning activities.

• To offer potential participants the opportunity to review their needs, current service provision, and identify cultural issues and/or activities not currently being addressed. All service users’ views and suggestions will feed into the Partnership Board and other commissioners.
